A cosmopolitan hotel, towering thirty or more stories, was planned to be the theme building of EPCOT's completely enclosed commercial center. These various renderings show this proposed central icon.

Industrial Park

Conceptual rendering (a)

Typical Industrial Complex

Conceptual rendering (b)

Utilizing the radial design upon which all elements of the proposed development are based, this Industrial Complex is but one of several similar areas planned for Disney World's 1,000-acre Industrial Park. Here the Disney staff would have worked with individual corporations to create a showcase of industry.

These renderings shows how differing modes of transportation would have be channeled into non-conflicting traffic flows below the pedestrian level of the city. The Transportation Lobby was located at the very heart of EPCOT, directly beneath the 30-story theme hotel. This was to be the central arrival-departure for all passengers using the monorail or the newly-designed "WEDway People Mover."
Interspersed throughout the commercial center of EPCOT will be international shopping areas, where visitors will find imported merchandise, foreign cuising, dinner shows and roving entertainers native to many lands. Seen above the streets in this completely enclosed downtown center art eh "WEDway People Mover" and the monorails, prime transportation means for the residents of EPCOT.

Radial Design

The so-called radial design was a key element of Walt Disney's Epcot. Here is an aerial view of the urban center and a detail of the greenbelt between the high density housing and the suburbian areas.

Master Plan

Master Plan drawn by Walt Disney, 1965-66

The original master plan of Walt Disney World was drawn by Walt Disney. The plan follows a main Monorail line all along the property. From south to north of the property, can be noticed the airport, the entrance complex, the Industrial Park, Epcot and the themepark and tourist area.

Shopping Center

The international shopping center was supposed to be located in the domed area of the urban center. It was supposed to feature architectural elements from all over the world with corresponding entertainment, shopping and culutural events. This the only element of Walt Disney's project that was realized when Epcot became a themepark in 1982.
